FEEDING YOUR PUPPY
Your puppy should be fed on a complete and balanced diet specially formulated to suit his/her stage of life. We recommend a premium brand puppy biscuit, as they are made from high-quality ingredients and provide all the nourishment that your puppy needs.
Changes in diet should be made gradually as sudden changes can cause diarrhoea and other problems. Puppies only have small stomachs so they require small meals often. We always use Eukanuba food for small dogs so this is what your puppy is accustomed to. We will provide you with a puppy pack which includes some initial food. Whilst they are a few weeks old we mix the dry food with water as it is easier for small puppies but later you can gradually change it to the same dry food. Give him/her 3 meals a day. Important: Always ensure a bowl of water is put down for them and clean the bowl with washing up liquid then refresh the water twice daily.
To keep your pup’s bright little mind active you should supply a good range of toys such as Rope Chews, Kongs, Toy Bones etc, which can be rotated over a period of a week so there is always something new to play with. Be careful when choosing toys because puppies can break off and swallow small pieces of plastic, which could make them ill. Only use toys designed for dogs and try to buy washable toys. Latex toys can break off as well, so avoid them.
Puppies will take anything and woof it down and children, innocently and in ignorance will hand them whatever they like and have in their hands (food toy or otherwise), so watch out for this. Please educate children to NEVER give chocolate to a puppy or dog, they will eat it but it is poisonous to dogs but doggy chocs from the pet shop are usually ok.
You can find a poisons list on the Dogs Trust site here
